My books from the library get to digital editions but can't get them to load to my kobo. What do I need to do?
Digital Editions to kobo
Embedded fonts do not display properly in ADE 4.5.5! Bug?
Software and environment
Windows 10
Adobe InDesign CS6
Calibre 2.85.1 (64 bit)
Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.5
Summary of problem 1
My EPUB produced in InDesign has embedded fonts. When I work on my EPUB in Calibre Editor and save the embedded fonts are no longer recognised in ADE. The Latin font I am using is Gentium (download: http://software.sil.org/gentium/download). I am also using a non-Latin font for a RTL language.
Steps to reproduce problem 1
1) Make book in InDesign and export to EPUB 2.0.1
2) Open file in ADE...everything works fine
3) Open file in Calibre Editor using default preferences
4) Make a change and undo it
5) Save EPUB
6) Open EPUB in ADE
7) The embedded fonts are no longer recognised!!
Fix to problem 1 and subsequent problem 2
1) Make book in InDesign and export to EPUB 2.0.1, do not embed fonts
2) Open file in Calibre Editor using default preferences, embed fonts
3) Save EPUB
4) Open EPUB in ADE
5) The fonts have embedded and can be seen in ADE but the bold weight is no longer recognised!!
Report
The Calibre developer kindly looked into this for me and says as follows:
1) The epub with embedded fonts from InDesign declares it is using the
IDPF font obfuscation algorithm but is not actually using it. At least
trying to de-obfuscate the fonts with it does not work. I'm guessing they
are using some unholy combination of the IDPF and their own obfuscation
algorithm. This is why resaving the file with the editor breaks the
fonts.
2) When embeddeding the fonts without obfuscation using the editor, I
noticed that ADE renders [one character] as bold, but nothing else.
Which means it is successfully loading the font. So this is definitely an ADE bug.
ADE will not open!
I've been using Adobe Digital Editions for a few years now, especially for ebooks from my public library via Overdrive. (I have a Kobo.) It's been fine for years, but now the program absolutely refuses to open when I click on it. I've tried opening as administrator. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It just will. not. work. I'm not aware of any other way to get Overdrive books onto my device. Did anyone find a fix that worked? I'm going to be really annoyed if I lose all access to my library books.
Horror story getting ADE activations reset
I needed to get my ADE device activations reset, so I did a Google search and found this web page:
E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS error in Adobe Digital Editions
There was a link to "contact us" which I followed. From the myriad choices I made the mistake of choosing Account issues -> Account settings. This mistake cost me 1 1/2 hours of my life because the Chat representative I got was not properly trained and could not understand what I was asking for.
Later the same day I found this forum post:
While the link in the post didn't work as intended (it took me to the top level of "Contact us"), at least the link's text label told me that I wanted Account issues -> Adobe ID and signing in. (Counter-intuitive: I wasn't having a problem with my Adobe ID or with signing in to my account.)
The good news is that "Adobe ID and signing in" took me to a Chat representative who understood what I wanted and reset my device activations within 12 minutes -- not bad for a multitasking Chat representative.
From skimming the other posts in this forum my initial negative experience with getting device activations reset through Chat is hardly unique.
Constructive criticism:
1. Why not just do what Amazon does and let customers reset their device activations themselves from their account settings?
2. Failing that, fix the help link in the first web page above to go to a specific page to put in a request to have device activations reset with an email confirmation when done -- no chatting necessary.
3. Failing that, ensure that all of the Chat representatives understand what it means to reset device activations. The first Chat representative I got was completely lost.
I sincerely hope that someone at Adobe is listening.
Adobe Digital Editions for Surface RT
I would like to purchase a Microsoft Surface tablet to replace my netbook. The Surface runs the Windows 8 RT operating system, which is different from Windows 8. Executable files (such as the Adobe Digital Editions installation EXE) cannot be run on RT -- apps must be downloaded from the Microsoft Windows App Store. Will Adobe make a version of Adobe Digital Editions that will run on the Surface RT?
Thanks,
Cara
Digital Editions "sucks the sweat off a deadman's back"
The reason for doubting that the crippling navigational and other shortcomings of the product as a result of profound programming retardation comes as a result of comparing Digital Editions to Reader, Acrobat, and so forth. I guess it's cool to play at communist until the folks cutting the bigger check object.
I just spent for instance 85 bucks on an electronic text for a law class. The scrolling, inability to copy any text whatsoever, even though I can easily type out what I need in a time-consuming manner, the almost horrificly bad resizing tools and behaviours, I just don't know where to start.
Let me just finish by offering both a hearty and sincere, "thanks for a piece of crap".

adobe digital editions has stopped working
Jus wondering if anyone can help me. I am trying to transfer a book I borrowed from the library to my kobo. Everytime I drag and click it I get the following message. Adobe digital editions has stopped working windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. I used to use the Kobo on my desktop with no problems borrowing from the library but now I have a laptop I get this message every time. It will let me put books that I have purchased on my kobo but no library books. Also does it matter that I have a new kobo same model(just that my kobo was relpaced due to a problem I had) any help appriciated.
thanks
"Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY"
When I download a library book, I get the error message "Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY", as well as when I try to authorize my copy of digital editions to my account (in an attempt to deal with this.) I have used it to view ebooks from my college library successfully, though not recently.

Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.2 not responding
I had to reinstall ADE after Windows 10 Update (from hell), can only install 4.5.2. Every time, except once, I try to download a book ADE stops responding. Every time I try to open a book, except once, ADE stops responding. I have tried downloading from both the library and Google Play but the same outcome, not responding. No idea why the one book is downloaded after multiple attempts or I can open it, after multiple attempts. What is the problem? Is it 4.5.2 or Windows 10? 4.5.1 worked fine under pre-update Windows 10.
Installing Adobe Digital Editions 2. on a Mac
I am having trouble opening this download on my Mac, I have dowloaded it 3 times just in case there was an error, but all times I get an error message "Error getting license. License Server Communication Problem E_ACT_NOT_READY'
What does this all mean??
ACSM files cause Adobe Digital Editions to crash
So, I've been reading these forums trying to find an answer, but I haven't read about someone with the same problem. (If you know of a discussion where a solution was already posted, please link me if possible.) So, I decided to post this issue and see if anyone has some ideas about what to do.
I'm running OS 10.6.8 and the most recent Adobe Digital Editions. ADE can open/download some acsm files perfectly fine. However, for many, the application unexpectedly quits as soon as I try to open the acsm file. I know it's not the file, since I can send the file to someone else who uses the same computer and ADE version, and he can open the acsm just fine. I also know it's probably not ADE itself or my connection/firewall/etc., since I can open/download other acsm files perfectly fine. However, there seems to be a large number of acsm files that simply won't work for me and cause ADE to quit unexpectedly. Like I said, these same files work for someone else running the same version of ADE. Where should I look for the problem? These are not public library books. I do research at a graduate school, and these are ebooks that my school has paid for (the tech people there have been unable to help me). The person I sent the acsm files to test is not part of the institution, and yet he can still open the acsm files that I downloaded but can't open. So, I don't think it has to do with authorization either.
Does anyone have some trobleshooting suggestions beyond what I've just enumerated? Yes, I have uninstalled it and redownloaded it several times, along with essentially every other suggestion I've read on the forums, and still, many acsm files simply cause ADE to unexpectedly quit. If someone really wants, I can paste the entire error message that's given when it unexpectedly quits.
Thanks for any help.

Download Google Play
I cannot download pubs from Google Play. I get: E_ACT_NOT_READY. What can I do?
Digital Editions will not recognize my new nook Glowlight Plus.
Just bought a new nook Glowlight Plus. Digital Editions will not recognize it. has anybody had this problem? Adobe support couldn't figure it out, either.
Cannot uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 from Mac.
Hi folks. I am on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite OS version 10.10.5.
I cannot uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 from my Mac.
Things I have tried that do not work:
- dragging the application (with all associated folders) into the trash and emptying the trash
- pressing the "eject" button on ADE in the finder, then dragging application into trash and emptying trash
- downloading and running CC cleaner
- searching for all related files on computer and deleting
- re-downloading Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, deleting the application, and emptying the trash
- force quitting and re-launching Finder
- hiding ADE from Finder sidebar
- ejecting ADE (it just comes back)
Although the application is presumably "deleted," it continues to show up like this in EVERY SINGLE FILE FOLDER on my computer.
The only remaining trace of this program on my computer exists here, but it refuses to allow me to delete it:
When I click to open Digital Editions 4.5 Installer.pkg, it simply makes me reinstall again.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for getting this terrible program off my computer. Thank you.
